Delivery: Peter is a Chemical Engineer who has held senior positions with multi-national chemical companies with roles ranging from production, design, technology, global market development, and restructuring of operations. Peter was fortunate to start his career in design and operations in the base chemicals field of aromatics and olefines, he then moved to senior management roles the specialty chemicals arena of polyurethanes and subsequently M&A and restructuring in the formulated chemicals and materials world of epoxy chemistry. This career progression has seen Peter touch every important function in the chemical industry across all types of manufacturing platforms present.
 
Peter has a proven track record in delivering successful restructuring of complex multi-national businesses. Appointed by Huntsman to support Matlin-Patterson with the acquisition of Vantico (Specialty Chemicals - Revenue $1.4bn):
  • Led the operational and commercial review through due diligence
  • Formulated the business plan for restructuring
  • Restructured of the manufacturing footprint for the supply chain
  • Job reductions of 450 employees (approximately 25 %)
  • Full closure of 4 sites and relocation of 25% of the products
  • 1475 customer qualified products moved within 18 months
  • Annual budget responsibility for $1bn of cost
  • Sustainable reduction in the operating fixed costs by $75m per year
  • EBITDA improved from -$32m to +$185m in 18 months
Peter is highly regarded for his strategic thinking and management capability which is underpinned by his strong market knowledge and financial understanding giving him the ability to oversee the entire business. Since founding Per Astra Peter has been advising a number of large private equity and hedge funds on the process industries and assisting in project creation, due diligence and M&A.
